Roger Allan Sizemore: April 1, 1937-March 17, 2020
The first president of the Phillips Graduate Seminary, the Rev. Dr. Roger Allan Sizemore, died March 17, 2020 after a life of service in higher education and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
Sizemore served as president of PGS from 1988-90 after the Graduate Seminary of Philips University separated from the university in 1987. He served as Dean of the graduate seminary from 1984-87.
He was born in Grayson, Kentucky on April 1, 1937. Sizemore was a graduate of Steubenville high school, Steubenville, Ohio, attended Milligan College (BA), Butler University/Christian Theological Seminary (MDiv with honors), East Tennessee State University (MA in Psychology), and the University of Edinburgh, Scotland (PhD in Philosophy and Theology). He attended post doctoral studies programs at Ohio State University, Columbia University and The University of Tuebingen, Germany.
He was the author of Keeping in Touch, a book on human potentials. Sizemore was a former professor of religion at Milligan College and Professor of Psychology at the Citadel.
As an ordained minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Sizemore served as pastor for congregations in Texas, Georgia and Kentucky. He was also the owner of the Sizemore Consulting Group.
Sizemore is survived by his wife, Brenda Talley Sizemore, his children, and many more relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Alva D. Sizemore, Juanita Conley Sizemore, and his grandson, Hunter Sizemore.
