Phillips Theological Seminary Welcomes Two New Faculty Members for Fall

Phillips Theological Seminary announces the addition of two scholars to its faculty in the 2026-27 academic year. The Rev. Dr. S. Helen Chukka is joining the faculty as Assistant Professor of Hebrew Bible. She is currently Assistant Professor of Hebrew Bible at Wartburg Theological Seminary. Dr. Hannah Stork, who completed her PhD at Yale University this year, comes to Phillips as Assistant Professor of the History(ies) of Global Christianity(ies).

We are grateful to welcome Drs. Chukka and Stork to the Phillips community,” said Dean and Vice President of Academic Affairs Lisa Davison, PhD. “Their scholarly contributions and teaching experience will enrich the formation of our students and deepen our academic offerings.”

Chukka brings to Phillips nearly a decade of biblical scholarship informed by intersectional feminist and Dalit theology. She completed her PhD in Hebrew Bible from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, where her dissertation applied anti-caste perspectives to Ezra 9-10.

Stork joins Phillips from Yale, where she finalized her doctoral dissertation in Eastern Mediterranean and West Asian Religions. She studies the interactions between various Near Eastern Christian populations and the first Muslim communities in Late Antiquity and how those encounters shaped religious and cultural identity.

Each scholar represents the ongoing commitment at Phillips for faculty members who are active researchers and engage contemporary theological questions in their teaching.
