In Memoriam: the Rev. Frances Ann (Clare) Schnarre

Phillips Theological Seminary remembers and honors the life and ministry of the Rev. Frances Ann (Clare) Schnarre, who passed away on July 25, 2025, at age 73 in Centralia, Missouri.

Schnarre dedicated her life to ministry and compassionate community service, significantly influencing rural ministry education through her leadership with the Missouri School of Religion, whose legacy continues as the Center for Ministry and Lay Training at Phillips Theological Seminary

Born January 23, 1952, in Troy, Missouri, Frances Schnarre felt a deep call to ministry that led her from farming, and an accounting degree, into pastoral service. Ordained in 2001, she served as associate pastor at First Christian Church in Centralia, MO, as Director of the Missouri School of Religion, and later as Pastor of Granville Christian Church until her retirement in 2019. Her passion extended beyond ministry into advocacy, notably as District Representative for Growing Hope Globally and as a dedicated Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA).

“Frances Schnarre embodied genuine compassion, faithful leadership, and tireless advocacy,” said Phillips Seminary President the Rev. F. Douglas Powe Jr., PhD. “Her profound impact on rural congregations and individuals continues to inspire our commitment to serving these communities with dedication, understanding and love.”

Funeral services for Rev. Schnarre will be held at 10 a.m. July 29, 2025, at First Christian Church in Centralia, MO. The service will also be streamed on YouTube.
