Call for Artists: Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Exhibition

March 25, 2024

Phillips Theological Seminary invites local and regional artists to submit their artworks for a solo visual art exhibition, which will be on display on our campus at 901 N. Mingo, Tulsa, OK from 8/20/2024 to 10/18/2024. The topic is diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. We are seeking artists that represent communities directly affected by diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging policies, practices, and beliefs. The exhibition can include up to 20 works of 2-dimensional art, depending on size, and up to 5 works of 3-dimensional art, depending on size. Once an artist is selected, the exact works will be selected for the exhibition in partnership with the Phillips Theological Seminary team.

Benefits

  • Selected artist will receive a $500 honorarium and the opportunity to sell their artwork
  • Selected artist will have their artworks displayed in a prominent location on campus
  • Selected artist will have their artworks promoted through the seminary’s website, social media, and newsletter
  • Selected artist will have the opportunity to give an artist talk and interact with the seminary community

Eligibility

  • Artist must be at least 18 years old
  • Artist must identify as a member of a community directly affected by diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging policies, practices, and beliefs
  • Artwork must follow the Phillips Theological Seminary content policy

Submission Guidelines

  • Artist must fill out this form by 5/17/24
  • Artist must upload a current resume or CV
  • Artist must provide an artist statement (max. 500 words) that explains how their artworks relate to the topic of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
  • Artist must upload a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 images of their artworks with titles, dimensions, mediums, and year of creation
  • Artist must indicate if their artworks require any special installation or display needs

Selection Process

  • A jury panel of seminary faculty and staff will review all submissions and select one or more artist(s) for the exhibition
  • The selected artist(s) will be notified by 6/14/24
  • The selected artist(s) will be responsible for delivering their artworks to the seminary by 8/9/24 and picking them up by 10/25/24
  • The selected artist(s) will be expected to attend the opening reception on 8/20/24 and the annual Belonging Event on 10/16/24

Call for Artists: Indigenous North Americans Exhibition

Phillips Theological Seminary invites local and regional artists to submit their artworks for a solo visual art exhibition, which will be on display on our campus at 901 N. Mingo, Tulsa, OK from 11/12/24 to 12/20/24. The topic is Indigenous Persons Heritage Month, celebrating the rich and diverse cultures of the Indigenous peoples of North America. We are seeking artists who explore current themes and issues through their work, showcasing the creative expressions of contemporary Indigenous artists. The opening reception will coincide with a public event and lecture on 11/12/24. The exhibition can include up to 20 works of 2-dimensional art, depending on size, and up to 5 works of 3-dimensional art, depending on size. Once an artist is selected, the exact works will be selected for the exhibition in partnership with the Phillips Theological Seminary team.

Call for Artists: Seeking Shalom: Wisdom & Understanding in a Turbulent World

March 25, 2024

Phillips Theological Seminary invites local and regional artists to submit their artworks for a solo visual art exhibition, which will be on display on our campus at 901 N. Mingo, Tulsa, OK from 1/15/2025-4/4/2025. The topic is confronting global turmoil with local impact, guided by the profound wisdom (hokmah) and understanding (binah) of the Hebrew Bible. We hope to emphasize transformative approaches toward a fullness of wholeness (Shalom) in a rapidly changing world, with insightful and actionable responses rooted in ancient, yet ever-relevant, teachings. We welcome diverse and imaginative expressions of the theme. The opening reception will coincide with Remind & Renew, the Seminary’s annual 3-day event for ministers and alumni. The exhibition can include up to 20 works of 2-dimensional art, depending on size, and up to 5 works of 3-dimensional art, depending on size. Once an artist is selected, the exact works will be selected for the exhibition in partnership with the Phillips Theological Seminary team.
