Before joining the faculty at Phillips, Kathleen McCallie served 26 years in pastoral ministry ordained in the United Church of Christ. In addition to her experience leading congregations, she worked as a denominational officer in the UCC, social activist, and community organizer in various justice-seeking movements while teaching government and ethics. Her research focuses on ethical issues, social and transnational justice movements, and intersections of church and governance. Her favorite classes to teach include travel immersion courses to Nicaragua, Israel/Palestine, and the US/Mexico border. McCallie is currently completing the second year of a three-year training and certification in spiritual direction. She loves nothing more than working to change systems and discussing theories of justice and metaphysics of morals.
