Arthur F. Carter, Jr., Ph.D. joined Phillips Theological Seminary in 2018 as an Assistant Professor of New Testament.  Carter also serves as the founding director of Black Church Traditions and African American Faith-life at Phillips. Trained in New Testament and early Christian literature (Ph.D., Vanderbilt 2016), his primary research foci are early Christian literature, approaches to biblical interpretation, and uses of biblical imagery in nineteenth century Black Atlantic discourses.  Carter holds degrees from Wake Forest University (BA, Physics), Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School (MDiv), and the University of Manchester, UK (MA with Distinction in Biblical Studies).  He has previously served on faculties at American Baptist College, Vanderbilt University, and UNC Greensboro. A native of the Carolinas, Prof. Carter is licensed to Christian ministry within the Baptist faith-tradition. He currently resides in Tulsa Metropolitan area with his family.
