President's Greeting

The Rev. F. Douglas Powe Jr., PhD
Welcome! I am excited to be the new president at Phillips Theological Seminary and to be a part of a vibrant community with a dynamic faculty, staff, students and alumni/ae. What excites me about this community is being at a place that fosters ministry leadership, deeper spirituality, justice and intellectual curiosity while seeking to participate in God’s transforming work.
What sets Phillips apart from others are the various ways you can creatively discover your passion for participating in God’s work. Our mission captures this commitment to making a spiritual and social impact in congregations and society when it shares our desire “to learn and teach to be attentive to God; responsible biblical and theological interpreters; faithful individuals, congregations and communities acting with God to transform the world."
If you are wondering how to best cultivate your passion for making a spiritual and social impact, here are a few possibilities. We have a one-of-a-kind art venue that does quarterly exhibits highlighting a different social ill to shape dialogues aimed at moving us toward action. Our Black Church Traditions and African American Faith Life concentration is centered in one of the most historical cities for African Americans in the United States. For those interested in the intersection between public life and religion our Center for Religion in Public Life offers unique programming and opportunities. Just to name a few opportunities.
Welcome again to Phillips! I encourage you to become a part of our community as a student, auditor or friend. I encourage you to see where you can follow your passion for ministry at Phillips. I look forward to meeting and getting to know you personally as a part of our community.
Blessings,
F. Douglas Powe, Jr.
