President's Greeting

The Rev. Gary W. Kidwell

Welcome to the Phillips Theological Seminary community. Phillips is a dynamic gathering of students, faculty, churches, alumni/ae, trustees, and friends dedicated to learning, exploring, leading, and serving through congregations and communities.

As our Mission statement affirms, at the heart of our seminary community is the abiding desire “to learn and teach how to be: attentive to God; responsible biblical and theological interpreters; faithful individuals, congregations, and communities acting with God to transform the world.”

Phillips is a place for vibrant dialogue, where we will not all agree but have the opportunity to reflect on and learn from different views. We learn with and from each other perspectives on ministry, mission, and church.

At Phillips you will find:

  • A gathering of scholars that takes very seriously the expression of God’s justice and shalom in the world and converses about those things all the time,
  • A school that will push you to question your assumptions about how to interpret the scriptures and how or how not to see Jesus in them and in the world,
  • People who will care about your context, the contexts of classmates, the multiple contexts of our churches and our peoples, and
  • A place where your own vocation as a faith leader can be nurtured and sustained throughout your life.

Is Phillips the community for you? If “yes” is your answer and you are interested in joining our community as a student, auditor, or friend, please let us know.

Blessings,

Gary Kidwell
Interim President
