President's Blog Honored in Statewide Contest

The Oklahoma Professional Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists awarded second place to Phillips Theological Seminary President Gary Peluso-Verdend for his weekly blog during its annual awards banquet May 19, 2018.

Peluso-Verdend’s blog entries in the contest focused on the role of faith in public life, a frequent theme for his posts. The first and third place winners in the category were blogs from staff of The Oklahoman newspaper.

The Oklahoma SPJ contest is one of the largest in the state and recognized outstanding writing, reporting, editing, photography, videography and design work completed in 2017.

Peluso-Verdend’s most popular blog posts reach thousands of individuals. His entry, “Wanted, Maybe: Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor” reached more than 5,000 people on Facebook.
