PTS President Gary Peluso-Verdend kicks off the 2010-11 academic year with a prayer to know and be known by our God.
Dear Source of Truth and Beauty, Wisdom and Power:
We’ve joined the ranks of those who seek to understand You truly. My classmates and professors and I have books to read, articles to discover, web pages to browse and sort and sort and sort, papers and posts to write.
What we want from all this work is not primarily a credential but a relationship. We want to know and to be known. We want to know You. We want to be known by You. We want to understand You for my own sake. We want to understand You for the sake of all the people we lead or influence, all we will lead or influence. Grant that we might know You truly, and that our doing will take the shape of our knowing.
We know we can’t know You completely. You’ve played peek-a-boo with every mystic and theologian, every meditator and exegete, every priest and imam and rabbi and pastor, every community, every people, every seminary. Attend our ears to the True You others speak. Give us, the community of PTS, more pieces of the puzzle that is You.
Make us better able to discern when to speak of You and when to keep silent, for both are faithful responses to knowing You truly.
Love,
The Community of PTS
