What is iCalendar?

iCalendar is a computer file format(.ics) which allows internet users to share calendars in programs such as MS Outlook or Apple iCal, through the use of subscriptions or snapshot files:

  • iCalendar Snapshot File:

    • Creates a static reproduction of a calendar with its current events.
    • Supported by MS Outlook 2003 and most other calendar applications
    • Instructions for importing an iCalendar Snapshot File into MS Outlook 2003
  • iCalendar Subscription:

    • Creates a dynamic calendar that is updated automatically over time.
    • Supported by MS Outlook 2007, Apple iCal, and Mozilla Sunbird
    • Instructions for establishing an iCalendar Subscription


Import an iCalendar Snapshot File into MS Outlook 2003

  1. Click on Download PTS iCalendar and save the .ics file to your desktop
  2. In Outlook 2003 go to the Calendar screen, click on the 'File' button, then 'Import and Export'
  3. In the 'Import and Export Wizard' select 'Import an iCalendar or vCalendar file' and click 'Next'
  4. Navigate to your desktop, select the 'PTScalendar.ics' file and click 'OK'


Subscribe to an iCalendar

  • All users - subscription link

    Click on subscribe to PTS iCalendar. This may create the subscription for you. If so, you will see a confirmation popup. If you did not see a confirmation popup, then follow the instructions below to manually add the subscription to your calendar program.

  • MS Outlook 2007 users (MS Outlook 2003 does not support subscriptions)

    1. In Outlook 2007 go to the 'Tools' menu and click on 'Account Settings';
    2. Click on the 'Internet Calendars' tab and select 'New';
    3. Copy the URL of the .ics file http://ptstulsa.edu/calendar/PTS.ics and paste it into the location box, then click 'Add'.
  • Apple iCal users

    1. In iCal go to the 'Calendar' menu and click on 'Subscribe';
    2. Copy the URL of the .ics file http://ptstulsa.edu/calendar/PTS.ics and paste it into the 'Subscribe to:' box;
    3. Select the "Refresh" checkbox, then click 'Subscribe'.
