Rev. Ron Nofziger - 2011 Marshall Award Recipient

Ron S. Nofziger was born and reared in Salem, Oregon. He attended Court Street Christian Church in Salem from Jr. High School through college. Ron received his Bachelors Degree in Theology from Northwest Christian College in Eugene, Oregon. He was ordained by the Court Street Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in 1965. Ron came to Phillips Graduate Seminary in Enid, OK, for his Masters in Divinity (1968) and Masters in Theology (1969). He also received a M.S. Degree in counseling psychology (1986) from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. Ron was pastor of The United Church of Christ, Drummond, OK, during seminary and of Vacaville Christian Church, Vacaville, CA, before joining Hillcrest Medical Center as Chaplain in 1973. He has been Coordinator of the Pastoral Care Department at Hillcrest since 1997.

 

Ron has 37 years experience in a chaplaincy ministry to ill and dying patients, families and staff at Hillcrest Medical Center, as well as pastoral counseling and training. He has been Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Oklahoma Tulsa Medical College where he provided instruction on the issues of “Death and Dying” and “End of Life” for medical students and residents. In addition, Ron maintains a private practice in pastoral therapy and is licensed by the State of Oklahoma as a professional counselor and marital and family therapist. He is Board Certified with the Association of Professional Chaplains, and a Fellow in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors, and Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapist.

 

Ron has been married 45 years to his High School sweetheart, Kaye. They have two sons and six grandchildren. In addition to family, they enjoy gardening, hiking, camping, fishing, and international recreational bicycling.
