Life on the Streets & Borders Strives to Provide Understanding
Tulsa, Okla., April 10, 2012 – Phillips Theological Seminary (PTS) will host Life on the Streets & Borders, an educational outreach event, on Tuesday, April 17, at 5:30 p.m., at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church (1442 South Quaker Ave.). The event strives to help Tulsans understand and learn more about how life on the streets and borders affects many in our community.
The Rev. Lorenza Andrade Smith will be featured as a speaker; she will share first-hand accounts of living on the streets and strategies for effective action. Smith is a member of the United Methodist clergy whose ministry focuses on the poor and advocating for systemic change while living in solidarity among those who live on the streets. She chose to become homeless to fight for the homeless.
At 5:30 p.m., dinner will be provided; a meal commonly available at area shelters and soup kitchens will be served. At 6:15 p.m. the main program will begin with life stories shared by those who have first-hand experience through living their lives on the streets and/or along the borders, followed by Smith responding sharing her experiences. Following the program, resource groups will be available, these groups will be comprised of local organizational representatives that will seek opportunities to engage and participate in solutions for our community.
