Instead of searching for signs, we receive and offer the Bread of Life.
We want a sign too, Holy Mystery, like those people who followed Jesus around. And like them, we want one all the time, every day, in every place.
We want assurance that we are the center of your divine attention, that we are the unique recipients of your divine favor, that we are the sole proprietors of your divine grace.
Yet instead you offer bread—the bread of flesh, the bread of blood, the bread of life—and you hold this bread out to us in the words and acts of Jesus the Messiah.
May we eat these words, partake of these acts, participate in his life. May we receive this gift as the bread that satisfies desire, assuages hunger, slakes thirst. And then may we offer it to one another, to the world.
