Phillips Sponsors Citywide 9/11 Anniversary Event

Join your fellow Tulsans in a city-wide observance of the 10th Anniversary of September 11th. The three-part experience includes a 9/11 commemoration event from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the BOK Center featuring a community choir, representatives from 12 faith traditions, speakers and a video presentation.  The program’s keynote speaker will be former Tulsa Mayor Susan Savage.  Bill O’Connor, OCCJ Board President, is honorary chair of the observance, and Clayton Vaughn, long-time local news anchor, will be serving as emcee.  All active and veteran military personnel, first responders, and groups such as Boy Scouts, Campfire Boys and Girls, and Girl Scouts are encouraged to come in uniform and be recognized.

Following the observance, a first responders street expo and concert will be held outside the BOK Center on 3rd street between Denver and Frisco from 3:30 - 6 pm. The expo is to honor and bring awareness to the first responder officers who protect and serve the Tulsa community every day.  The expo consists of interactive exhibits from public safety organizations including the Tulsa Police Department, Tulsa Fire Department, EMSA, Tulsa County Sheriff, Oklahoma Highway Patrol and others, as well as a music stage and food vendors.  Musical artists include Eric Himan, Little Joe McLerran and Red Dirt Rangers.  Both events are free and open to the public.

Attendees will have the opportunity to cheer on the Tulsa Shock in their final game of the regular season by purchasing a discount game ticket/commemorative T-shirt on sale during the street expo. A portion of the proceeds will benefit  the Oklahoma Center for Community and Justice and the Tulsa Shock Community Foundation.

This event is sponsored by The Oklahoma Center for Community and Justice, the Tulsa Shock, The Anne and Henry Zarrow Foundation, The Folds of Honor Foundation, the BOK Center, Kim and Rob Coretz and Ruth Nelson in cooperation with the Islamic Society of Tulsa, Jewish Federation of Tulsa, Phillips Theological Seminary, Tulsa Interfaith Alliance, and Tulsa Metropolitan Ministry.
