Phillips Commencement Exercises

PTS will hold its commencement exercises on Saturday, May 15, at 11:00 a.m. at First Christian Church, located at 913 S. Boulder in downtown Tulsa.

The Rev. Dr. Robin R. Meyers, Senior Minister at Mayflower Congregational United Church of Christ in Oklahoma City will deliver the PTS commencement address.

Meyers will also introduce Bob Lemon, a candidate for the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters. Lemon is an Oklahoma City attorney and a charter member of the PTS Board of Trustees.

“The seminary is very pleased to honor Bob for his work—as an attorney, as a Christian, and as a citizen. He has been gentle and fierce in advocating for ‘the least of these,’ said Dr. Gary Peluso-Verdend, PTS president.

An alumnus of PTS, Meyers serves as a professor of Rhetoric in the Philosophy Department at Oklahoma City University. He has authored five books including his most recent Saving Jesus From the Church: How to Stop Worshiping Christ and Start Following Jesus. A frequent guest preacher and workshop leader around the country, Meyers has appeared on Dateline NBC, numerous public television programs, and as a commentator on National Public Radio.

PTS is graduating 43 total students in four degree programs: Master of Divinity (31), Master of Theological Studies (6), and Master of Arts in Ministry and Culture (4). Commencement exercises will also honor two Doctor of Ministry students.

PTS is a diverse community with a current enrollment of 166 students which includes 142 at the Master’s level. Students hail from 17 different states. Sixty-five students are taking at least one online course while 28 students are taking only online courses.
