PTS Celebrates 25th Year in Tulsa

PTS Celebrates 25th Year in Tulsa with Labyrinth Prayer Walk

Tulsa, Okla., March 6, 2012 –   In celebration of their 25th year with a presence in the Tulsa area, Phillips Theological Seminary (PTS) will be holding a Labyrinth Prayer Walk on March 10, at their meditation garden and labyrinth on the Seminary’s campus.  The Labyrinth Prayer Walk will begin at noon and conclude at 3:00 p.m., with participants beginning the walk every hour.

PTS began offering courses in the Tulsa area in 1986, twenty-five years later the Seminary’s endowment has grown, they offer a full-schedule of classes and faculty and staff live as active participants in the Tulsa community.  Walking the labyrinth is a way of prayerfully entering into and celebrating the Seminary’s journey of faith and learning, past, present and future.

Labyrinths have long been used in many cultures and religions as meditation and prayer tools.  The Labyrinth Prayer Walk will take walkers into sacred space, giving participants time, peace, quiet, and reflection that they may not receive otherwise.  Labyrinth walking, like worship and other spiritual practices, is a community ritual.

Participants of the Labyrinth Prayer Walk with have the opportunity to experience its three stages.  Stage 1 (from entry to the center) is releasing or letting go of the details of one’s life, this stage quiets the mind.  State 2 (the center) is illumination or centering – opening oneself and listening.  Stage 3 (leaving the center and returning to the entry point) is union or incarnation – joining with the power of divine healing and love and taking it into the world.

The Labyrinth Prayer Walk is the conclusion of various events over the past several weeks that included a Kickoff Luncheon at the Campbell Hotel as well as Brunch with PTS on Sunday, March 4, at participating McNellie’s Group restaurants.
