O God of Easter

With joy we pray to the God who raised Jesus Christ, the God who raises us, in this Easter prayer by Kay Northcutt.

O GOD OF EASTER

            Easter Sunday

O God of new life,

hear our joyful noise to you

as we come into your presence with singing,

for Christ

is risen.

On this morning when the heavens and earth are telling

your glory,

when the earth itself would cry out,

we gather together—

brothers and sisters in Christ—

remembering

the first Easter morning,

when three women,

hands heavy with spices of sadness,

sought the living among the dead

and were astounded to find an empty tomb.

We come this morning

as Easter people

radiant from the joy of what we have come here

to proclaim again this morning:

Christ is risen!

We come this morning, recalling Christ's tomb

because it is a place

where Christ is no longer found—

but Christ's presence

and newness of life are.

We come

to speak the resurrection,

Christ is risen,

so that we ourselves become children of grace,

the stones that entomb us rolling away

We come

to speak the resurrection,

Christ is risen,

as we ourselves—disciples of Christ—

heed our call to roll away the stones that entomb others

God, we remember on this Easter morning of light

your children throughout this earth

who are suffering from illness, hunger, violence,

the struggle of aging, and the wounds of a loneliness

no human touch can heal.

Our hearts overflow.

Hear our silent prayers:

            Silent prayer

As we seek new beginnings this Easter,

We ask these prayers in the name of the Resurrected One

            AMEN
