Phillips Theological Seminary hosted its 2014 Commencement Ceremony from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 17. The ceremony was held at First Christian Church located at 913 S. Boulder Ave. in downtown Tulsa. John Imbler, the Stephen J. England Associate Professor of the History of Christianity and Disciples Studies, was the faculty speaker.

Phillips had 29 graduates this year, 22 of whom participated in commencement. Graduates earned a total of 20 Master of Divinity degrees, one Master of Arts in Ministry and Culture, three Master of Theological Studies degrees, one graduate diploma in General Theological Studies, one certificate in Graduate Theological Studies, and three Doctor of Ministry degrees.

Phillips also gave one Honorary Doctor of Divinity degree to Rev. Marlin Lavanhar, Pastor of All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa. Lavanhar was nominated for the degree by Rev. Ray Hickman, Executive Director of Tulsa Metropolitan Ministry, an organization that promotes interfaith work.

The commencement ceremony included senior reflections, a faculty reflection, student achievement award recognition, presentations of honorary degrees, the hooding ceremony and the annual charge to the graduates from the dean. A reception was held after the ceremony for graduates and their families.
