Personal Message

Why did you originally get involved with Phillips Theological Seminary?

  • I grew up in a Disciples congregation and learned about Phillips University at church and in summer church camp. In seventh grade, I decided that after high school I would attend Phillips. That undergraduate degree prepared me so well that when it was time for seminary, Phillips Graduate Seminary was a logical first choice. There’s no time as an adult that I haven’t been involved with the seminary.

What challenge(s) does the seminary face that energizes you the most?

  • The number of congregations that can call and adequately support a full-time seminary-trained pastor with an M.Div. continues to decline, yet the church still needs knowledgeable ministers, formed in the faith, trained and equipped to lead. Our seminaries are a logical place to look for help in filling that need. I’m interested to see where the new venture in ministerial training leads.

Phillips Theological Seminary offers Christian graduate theological education
in service of intelligent, just, and compassionate religious and civic communities. We welcome
students to a safe space for truth-seeking conversations about the Bible, Jesus, and faithful living.
Courses available on campus and online for certificate, diploma, MDiv, MAMC, MASJ, & MTS
programs, and on campus for the DMin program.
