On the first day of the Fall semester seated classes, students, faculty, staff and friends filled the chapel to hear the interim Director of Admissions and Student Services, MaryAnn Morris, deliver the message "Leaving Our Place." She reflects on Luke 14: 1, 7-14. Morris is also a Phillips alumna.

On the final day of Fall 2016 new student orientation, the Rev. Dr. Nancy Claire Pittman, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the seminary, offers the reflection based on Romans 12: 1-8.

On the second night of new student orientation for the fall semester 2016, the Rev. Dr. Richard Ward offered a reflection based on Genesis 32: 22-31. Ward is the Fred B. Craddock Professor of Homiletics and Worship and the Denominational Formation Director for United Church of Christ at Phillips.

During the opening evening of the new student orientation for fall 2016, the Rev. Dr. Gary Peluso-Verdend offers the reflection based on Exodus 4: 1-13. Dr. Peluso-Verdend is the President and Associate Professor of Practical Theology at Phillips.
