General Studies

The certificate (for which participants do not earn academic credit) program in General Theological Studies offer lay people and other individuals access to theological education in a progressive context without completing a full master's degree. The certificate in graduate theological studies can be completed by taking courses online or on campus.

Curriculum:

15 hours of course work will be selected in consultation with an adviser, taking into consideration course prerequisites and the student's interests. For example, a student who wants a general introduction to theological education might consider taking the portal courses in Interpretation Matters, Context Matters, Conversation Matters, for a total of 12 hours and adding an additional 3-hour elective in area of special interest.  Anyone with a specific area of interest should consult the office of Admissions to discover the availability of courses in the area of interest before applying.

Admission Requirements:

Certificate students are not required to have a bachelor's degree.

Cost:
The cost for certificate students is $40 per hour, meaning a 3 hour course is $120. Books are a separate cost.  There is no financial assistance available for certificate students.
