Celebrating Graduates and Thanking Donors

On Saturday, May 17, at 11 a.m., 29 students will become alumni. Families and friends will gather to celebrate their loved one’s hard work that has culminated in graduation from Phillips Theological Seminary. It’s the highlight of the school year for many, including myself, because it marks another generation of leaders equipped with the skills, knowledge and humility to serve.

However, it’s not just family, friends, faculty and staff that celebrate each graduation. There is a great cloud of witnesses, past and present, who make graduation possible every year: donors.

Donors help fund the educational journey of students. I visit with donors every week who believe in the ministry and mission of Phillips. Donors want to know the stories of the students they support. They are curious about what gifts and talents are being equipped and enhanced through a student’s education. I have the honor of sharing these stories and keeping these connections alive.

As we witness this year’s graduation, I invite you to imagine with me the faces of all who  helped make this day possible – those who have given in the past to help create an endowment of over $45 million, and those who have given today helping to raise the $775,000 needed each year for the Annual Fund.

On Saturday there will be a sanctuary full of people, but there will also be many more celebrating our graduates. Donors past and present will be surrounding commencement in prayer and gratitude for the important work that each of these graduates have and will do in the name of the one who calls us all.
