Call for Proposals Faith & Civil Discourse Event

A Call for Proposals to Address Faith and Civil Discourse

Tulsa, Okla., June 28, 2012 – What contributions should people of religious faith make to civil discourse in the United States?  Phillips Theological Seminary is inviting individuals to submit proposals on this topic for presentations to be delivered during the ReMind & ReNew 2013 conference, January 23-23, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Through this “crowd-sourced” approach, PTS hopes to surface ideas for how to engage in meaningful conversations among people of faith about issues that often divide.

Anyone 18 years old or older is invited to submit a proposal.  Persons who have experience in building bridges across divides are urged to apply; with particular interest in anyone who has recent experience in making contributions to civil discourse.  A proposal should be no more than 250 words and should clearly respond to the question around which the conference is organized.  Nine presentations will be accepted.  PTS is committed to hearing diverse points of view; the hope is that presentations are informative, inspiring, thought-provoking, delivered with intelligence, passion, and humor.

The ReMind & ReNew conference will be comprised of presentations, conversation and worship.  Each presentation will take no less than 20 minutes and no more than 30 minutes, and conversations will follow each presentation.  Presenters chosen will receive a $300 honorarium and travel cost to the conference.  Deadline for proposals is Monday, July 30, 2012.  A decision on accepted proposals will be made by August 3, 2012.

The purpose of ReMind & ReNew conference is to gather religious professionals and interested publics for thought-provoking and spirit-renewing presentations, conversations and worship.  More than 200 participants from diverse disciplines are expected to attend.
