Biblical Studies

The certificate (for which participants do not earn academic credit) and the graduate diploma (for which participants earn master's level credit) programs in Biblical Studies offer lay people and other individuals access to advanced biblical study in a progressive context. Either the certificate or the graduate diploma can be completed by taking courses online or on campus.

The semester-hours required for this certificate include:

Phase I: Invitation to Community................................................. 4 semester-hours

  • PC 500 Interpretation Matters

Phase II: Vital Conversations ...................................................... 12 semester-hours

In Phase II students continue to utilize the strategies learned in Phase I to develop further skills and deepen knowledge in biblical studies, to be distributed as follows:

  • Hebrew Bible (6 hours)

  • New Testament (6 hours)

Admission Requirements: Graduate diploma students must have a bachelor's degree with a GPA of 2.5 or better. Certificate students are not required to have a bachelor's degree

The cost for certificate students is $80 per hour, meaning a 3 hour course is $240. The cost for graduate diploma students is $275 per hour for tuition, meaning a 3-hour course is $825.  For members of a congregation in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) or the United Church of Christ, tuition is $250 per hour, meaning a 3-hour course is $750. Diploma students also pay $100 in fees for each semester that they are enrolled in the program. Books are a separate cost.  There is no financial assistance available for certificate and graduate diploma students.
