A Child Is Born

Celebrate the birth of Jesus, a child given unto all of us.

Christmas A December 26, 2010 White Isaiah 9:2-7, Psalm 96, Titus 2:11-14, Luke 2:1-20

“‘Do not be afraid; for see—I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger.’’ Matthew 2:10b-12

And there cast in the midst

of mystery and intrigue,

lay a baby boy

bound with cords of cloth

protected from flailing about

and the elements of nature

A child was BORN

God becoming human in that moment,

a notion beyond our imagination,

(though we oft think we have become god)

the angelic choir shouting this truth,

God is pitching her/his tent in a stable

Beauty and pageantry in these stories,

shepherds, Magi, virgin birth, even the petty despot threatened,

(his own godness threatened)

none though matching the indescribable wonder

of God reveling the Godself fully

becoming fully venerable and thus knowable

Merry Christmas,

journeying off to Bethlehem,

seeking the extraordinary in the midst of the normal,

discovering the supernatural in the realm of the natural,

“for unto to us a child is born” Isa. 9:6 KJV

 Merry Christmas, indeed

The great miracle of Christmas presented with stories beyond our understanding, as the truth of God becoming human is in itself beyond our understanding, though never outside the range of our belief and pleasure. Jim Wilson
