Phillips Seminary Sponsors 2018 Emerging Voices Event

Phillips Theological Seminary sponsored the Emerging Voices event at the 25th Biennial Session of the National Convocation, July 19-22, in Birmingham, AL.

Emerging Voices showcases a new generation of preachers. This year's preachers included: Rev. Edward L. Anderson (pictured), Rev. Anthony L. Holmes, Sr., Rev. Rae Karim and Rev. Whittney Ijanaten.

Phillips Seminary alumnus the Rev. Jesse Jackson, Jr. was honored with the Justice Leadership Award during the National Convocation banquet on July 22.

Jackson, pastor of East Sixth Street Christian Church in Oklahoma City, serves in a variety of justice-seeking positions in the community, including the executive committee of Black Lives Matter Oklahoma and founding president of the National Action Network of Oklahoma City and Southcentral Oklahoma.

Others honored at the banquet include Rev. Charles Webb, Jr. with the Preston Taylor Living Legacy Award. In addition, the Liberation Award was given to four recipients: Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II, Rev. Dr. Irie Session, Rev. Dr. Jack Sullivan, Jr., and Rev. Dr. Sekinah Hamlin.
